"Community manager fourzerotwo has dropped a bombshell on the PC community as he confirmed there will be NO dedicated servers, no mods, no server lists and matchmaking only for the PC version on Modern Warfare 2, a first for the Call of Duty series, a series known for its large modding community and high number of dedicated servers."

Forget about it, I'm not getting it. The prospect of being stuck with their fail weapon "balances", laggy games because no dedicated servers, being placed in ridiculously high ping matches, maximum like 12 people per game and no obscurity sucks and the game has no future on pc. I'm sure a lot of console kiddies will get their parents to buy it though, stupid noobs ruining a good game.

yeah. ill have to get my bro to get the SP for $10 in melbourne. if i no  someone who says its good ill get it, or if they at least change:

if they have dedicated servers ill get it, so i wont waste bandwidth and have laggggyness matches.

so otherwise sp for $10 soon.

not paying $100 just for a SP and super laggy matches

Cancelling preorder. $100+ for singleplayer. No thanks.

I have also posted in this topic on the official forums.

As the co-creater of the Obscurity mod, this is the worst news we could hear. So for all our Obscurity mod players, we are sorry that we cannot bring it to MW2.

Bringing something new to the multiplayer via mods helps the PC online community stay fresh, without any additional cost to the developers. Not being able to run dedicated servers or use custom content is enough to cancel a preorder IMO. If they release a patch to allow the dedicated servers and custom content, then it is worth re-considering, but until that occurs this is a bullet through the head to PC gamers."

http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=121918&start=1160

"Mods keep the game fresh and the community alive. Dedicated servers are needed for good connections, custom maps and mods etc. We don't all live in the same country, so the ability to have dedicated servers allows us to play lag free by setting up a server that is close/within the same country.

And for all the console players stating stuff like, we have skills, we don't needs mod...you need to do some more research into what a mod is. Anybody played Counterstrike? That's a mod. It allows us modders to create a whole new take on the game, so the gamers have something fresh to play with when the core game gets too repetitive.

Until the official word is given to clear up this situation and state different, the PC version is dead and they will lose a lot of sales."

"Official Word" Podcast (Fourzerotwo speaks at 1 hour 39 minutes):
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2369799

Summary:
IWNet runs the servers, you control the settings (disable perks etc), but you cannot make any mods or maps or custom content.
In other words, you get what we give you and thats all.

You want new perks, well bad luck. You want new maps, bad luck. You want a a fresh take on a stale multiplayer after playing for 1 month, bad luck.

PC gamers have reacted with horror to Infinity Ward's decision to cut mod and private server support from Modern Warfare 2, and now DICE has entered the fray.

The executive producer for the Battlefield series has vowed on his Twitter that DICE will continue to back hard-core PC gamers the hilt: "Dedicated servers FTW. What ever secures a better online experience is a given for us."

"Quick! Let's get to EB and cancel our pre-orders!"

And from Infinity Ward: silence.

Elsewhere, the fallout is still settling from IW's bombshell. Many have sworn to cancel their pre-orders of Modern Warfare 2; many more have called this fiasco the death of competitive gaming as we know it.

While unlikely to sway the Call of Duty developer, an online petition has started calling on IW management to reconsider their decision, and has already shot to over 36,000 signatures.

The case made by the petition is succinct: "Get Infinity Ward to review their decision not to allow fully dedicated servers for their forthcoming game release CoD:MW2. Remember that this Call of Duty was made popular by PC Gamers who have supported the series throughout."

To listen to the podcast where Rob Bowling broke the news, click here. Follow through to the end, and you'll witness a train wreck in slow motion. The sense of despair in the hosts' voices is unmistakeable, as they openly compare this perceived betrayal to both the assassination of JFK and the Hindenburg disaster: "Oh, the humanity!"

Yesterday's news story covering the downgrading of Modern Warfare 2 has sparked nigh on 300 comments -- you can join the discussion here.

I am also very PO'd at IW for getting rid of dedicated servers but i have heard one theory that IW is getting behind and they are removing dedicated servers only for a little bit so they can still make the release date.  Then on a patch or something they are going to add dedicated servers back in so they can still say that they never missed a release date.  I am hoping this is the case.  Unfortunatly I have also heard that they have a new thing called IWNet that will put you in a server with people your own skill level.  If this is the case then IW made one of their biggest mistakes ever IMO.

Being a server host i would rather that they held it back for 1 month and put in the dedicated server functionallity.

Hoping that people cancelling their pre-orders will be significant enought to make them do something about it......

Also 45.8k sigs so far on that petition. Make sure you post it on your clan forums!!!

Detailed IWNET info for Modern Warfare 2

Robert Bowling, Community Manager at Infinity Ward and bearer of bad news, has made a lengthy post on his personal blog. Within he explains exactly what the new IWNET means for matchmaking regarding Ping, playlists, private matches, parties and friends, and hack-free gaming. Read on for the full transcription.

The following is the full post from Mr Bowling's blog, which can also be viewed at its original location.

I recently broke news on a PC community member’s podcast that Modern Warfare 2 would be introducing a completely new backend infastructure called IWNET that would allow matchmaking for multiplayer games on PC. The news, by default, means no more browsing through a Server List for a server with the settings / ping you want among other things, and sent shockwaves through the hardcore PC community, leading to many more questions than answers as to ‘HOW’ this would work, and if it would really be better for the PC community as a whole.

Questions, assumptions, and speculation I intend to dispel.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is actually the biggest investment Infinity Ward has ever made into the PC version of our games. It’s also the most feature-rich PC version we’ve ever made. IWNET takes the benefits of dedicated servers and allows them to be utilized and accessed by every player, out of the box, while removing the barrier to entry for players unaware of how to maintain a server on their own.

How does it do this?

Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay: When you want to player a multiplayer game on PC, in the past. You’d have to scroll through a Server Browser which listed every available server which was hosted by individual server admins. Each had their own private rules, mods, or ways of playing the game. Most players would also use the server browser to find just the best quality game (based on PING). With IWNET matchmaking, it takes all that into account for you. All you have to do is select the playlist (pre-set gametypes with custom rules) that fits the style of play you are in the mood for. When you do, it will automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL. So you’re always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you’re playing on as well as an equal game with other players of your same skill level, not rank, but skill level. It doesn’t mean you’ll just be thrown into a random game! It will put you in the game that will give you the smoothest gameplay possible without you having to manually find a server with the best ping.

Playlists and Private Matches: As I described above, Playlists are pre-set game modes and gametypes for public games. If you just want to jump into a public game of Search and Destroy or Hardcore Search and Destroy and you don’t care about fully customizing it, then you can utilize playlists to do that quickly for you. However, say you’re in a clan and you want to play a Clan match with another team, or you want to practice for an upcoming tournament that has specific rules in a private game. Then you can start a Private Match (which is essentially like running your own private server) where you have complete control over the rules, who can join, boot players you don’t want, and essentially control the entire game or tweak it to your liking. Once the rules are set, you can invite the other team in or just start it up with your clan to practice with the custom rules before the match. This now allows you to play custom games out of the box without the need to install mods, find a modded server with the rules you like, or worry about not being in control of the match.

Party System and Friendslist: Modern Warfare 2 on PC also makes it much easier if you want to party up with your friends, or again, with your clan for a match. You can utilize the friendslist to see when your friends are online, and invite them to your Party. A Party allows you to move from game to game as a group. It’s great for clan matches, because you can party of with your clan and move from public game to public game together. Or if you’re doing a scrim, party up and invite the other clan (who is in a party) and they’ll all join at once. Set up a private match together and play. It makes setting up scrims or games with friends easier and hassle free.

Cheat / Hack Free Games: The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don’t have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it. Modern Warfare 2 on PC allows us to control the quality of the game much more than ever before as well as utilizing the VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat) system to keep games clean of hackers and cheaters.

All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch.

It all sounds wonderful and convenient and full of rainbow-coloured unicorns. Just like Xbox Live did. Unfortunately, as we've seen with Xbox Live, these peer to peer models generally fail to actually work in countries smaller than the US. November the 10th can't come soon enough...

-----------------------------

Infinity Ward responds - and the news is not good

Infinity Ward has been surprisingly quiet since the storm of brown smelly stuff that arose when their community manager announced no mod or dedicated server support in Modern Warfare 2 on the weekend. Four days and one hundred thousand signatures on a petition later, and the heads of Infinity Ward have finally spoken about their controversial decision.
According to gameinformer.com, Jason West, (COO of Infinity Ward) believes this strategy will remove "all of the cheaters, the insular communities and huge skill level disparities that the original game's community fractured into." Mr West was quoted as saying "We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners. We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game."

Screw MW2, Ima goin' rock climbing

Piracy was speculated to be a major reason behind the move to an Infinity Ward-controlled ecosystem, but this has since been downplayed. Studio Head Vince Zampella claimed during the interview that "Steam stuff helps with the piracy. I don't know that the matchmaking stuff does." He then goes on to blame much of the recent outburst on those who profit from the existing client/server model, "It's a little dubious. Some of the people complaining are complaining with their pocketbook."

Both IW staff reportedly reiterated to gameinformer.com that these changes will mean very little to the casual to moderate fans, and even hardcore fans will still be able host private games for training and matches. They claim the loss of modding will only be noticed by a small proportion of the Modern Warfare 2 playerbase, while the benefits will be felt by the majority.

Based on these replies, it sounds that even if they were served with a petition incorporating half of the human population, Infinity Ward is sticking to its guns and will not backtrack to release a dedicated server or mod support. It's a very interesting situation for us at games.on.net, as we run dozens of Modern Warfare servers, at no charge to the Aussie gaming public. It's also very interesting for Australian gamers and those in countries with a smaller playerbase than the US or Europe. As we've seen time and time again with Xbox Live matchmaking, this kind of matchmaking generally doesn't work, instead trying to place Aussie gamers into overseas games. The result are laggy connections akin to playing on dial-up. We'll be testing the bejeezus out the game when it lands in Australia on the 10th of November, with a full PC multiplayer review heading to games.on.net soon. Until then, let the speculation and rumour commence!

For the full interview, head over to gameinformer.com.

Loss of modding and custom maps will only be felt by a small proportion my ass...custom content is the reason for the PC version. MW2 will fail because of this and the online community will be very small after a couple of months due to the lack of custom content. 402's post does not resolve anything, just confirms how bad it will be...so no more need to speculate. It officially is fail now.

It is just their way to control all the game content, and potentially charge us for this content when they decide to release the one or two content packs over the lifecycle of the game. So sorry guys, no more free mods and maps thanks to greedy IW and Activision. Petition staying signed, preorder staying cancelled upon principal.

"AC2 is delayed for PC"

Buying it on PS3, dont think ill like playing AC2 on PC

wow? remove all the cheaters?...... Were just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners?

Complete bulls---, the experience thing is just complete bulls---, and for f--- sakes, any server that cant f---ing control cheaters (90% OF THEM DO IMO) wouldnt even get the server going well and the server itself wouldnt survive 6 days..... all of what IW is saying is complete rubbish and are making excuses just to itimidate people its the right decision...

IW IS GONNA HAVE TO DO BETTER THAN THIS RATHER THAN BLAMING IT ON CHEATERS OR JUST MAKING IT MORE FUN, BECAUSE NO DEDICATED SERVERS AND MODS = NO FUN AT ALL

Btw, the petition is already at 115k signatures(!) if u havent already, sign it now!

I DONT WANT A DAMN SYSTEM TO DO ALL THE f---ING WORK FOR ME, ILL JUST SCROLL THROUGH THE DAMN SERVERS AND FIND ONE MYSELF. HOWS THAT FOR A CHANGE? f---ING LAZY s---S

THE GOD DAMN SERVERS IVE BEEN PLAYING DONT HAVE f---ING HACKERS OR CHEATERS, AND THE ADMINS MADE THE GOD DAMN SERVERS THEMSELVES, OR MAYBE BOUGHT IT, SO IM SURE THE DAMN ADMINS CAN f---ING TAKE CARE OF THEIR SERVERS........

My response to the above article, located at: http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=123824&p=2469784#p2469784

"They claim the loss of modding will only be noticed by a small proportion of the Modern Warfare 2 playerbase..."

They have also just wiped out the most dedicated consumers of their products by doing this. The one's who spend a majority their spare time creating mods and custom content to keep the online experience fresh and new, therefore increasing the lifespan of the product for many online players.

"...while the benefits will be felt by the majority" of IW and Activision employees.

Especially when you get your few content updates here and there, that will most likely cost you money now.

"We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners. We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game."

They stated it perfectly right above, lifespan and loyal customers are not what they are after. They want the casual players to play for a while and then move on to the next best thing, as this is what will make IW/Activision rich.

So congratulations to the "casual to moderate fans", IW has provided you with 'super awesome' IWNet, and left us "hardcore" and dedicated fans with nothing.

I thought I'd share a private convo via youtube PM that I am currently having, in regards to MW2.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Random Youtube guy:
oh i know what mods are for probably not all mods though they can be used for map makeing. hacking. quick reload. super fast fireing speed for single shot weapons. increaseing game speed. god mode. ect. i just think the game should be playd the way it is maybe for the people who dont mod in actual games and only in custom games though thats fine but people who use them in actual match's with other people thats bad so if infinity ward has to get rid of moding hacking and so on just so people who only mod hack and build maps in custom games and other things so be it it may be less fun but your buying the game to play it not mod unless that's what you think so that's what i think of the whole thing ps. people who say they are not going to buy it probably at least 65-80% of them will get the game sooner or later

Snakelet:
Here, goto www.obscuritymod.com or search for obscurity mod on youtube. Mods can be used to create a whole new game, not just make guys jump higher, shoot faster etc.

There is a difference between using hax (one person in the server using small tweaks to gain an upper hand) and using mods (everyone uses the same game, has the same tweaks etc). As per my previous message to you with Obscurity, we created a whole new game. Similar to predator, the obscurity players can leap and cling onto walls, then drop down behind marines and gut them, slice their neck or cripple them. It is a virtually a whole new game.

We created 5 gametypes exclusive to the mod, dynamic day and night cycles, dynamic weather system, including blizzards for the snow maps. There is gore, taunts, squads, new weapons such as incendiary grenades, directional blood splatter ( a guy dies to your right and your screens get splatted with gore, from your right).

They are just a few things our total conversion mod achieves. I just think that people are misunderstanding the difference between mods and hacks...because if they understood the difference they would realise all the content PC gamers are losing due the new structure of MW2.

Thankyou for not flaming and responding in a respectable manner. :)

Random Youtube guy:
yes i do see your point and it is good but still its not what the game was intended for if your useing mods for some good old fun like in private match thats fine but for people who use mods in serious online games thats bad so if infinity ward has to remove the mods to make the game fair for everyone then so be it and its infinity wards game not the community's or the consumer its their game and they can do whatever they want with it if pc players dont like that then they dont need to waste their money on mw2. if i missed the point of our little conversation im sorry but its 1:00am over here im very tired ps. just cause mw2 does not have dedicated servers does not make it a bad game not saying you said it was a bad game

Snakelet:
The game will no doubt be good, but online will not be anywhere near as alive or fun on PC as COD4. The point I am trying to make is that the multiplayer does get kind of stale and repetitive over time. By allowing us to create total conversion mods it lets us continue to enjoy the game when it starts to get old. They allow us to create a unique new way to play the game. Some mods are created to balance weapons so that they are more reaslitc etc. Those sort of mods are great for clan battles and the community.

I have been playing COD4 constantly online since it came out, due to the fact that the mods give us more gaming options so it is less unlikely to get boring as you are not just killing other soldiers in team deathmatch constantly.

Another thing I aim for when making my mods is to remove all HUD elements. I find that games with HUD withdraw you from being in character, thus our mods remove just about everything that is HUD like. No grenade indicators, no crosshair, no ammo counter, no team nametags, replace hit indicator with blood splats so that you know when you tag a guy rather then hearing the click noise etc.

Modding allows us to create a game ourselves, and is great for those who don't run a dev company or can't afford engine licences.

They did make the game, and it wouldn't be a problem if they had not allowed modding from the original COD. What they have done is given us something great, and then decided to remove it. A similar situation would be if MW3 had no multiplayer. They give you something great and then the next time around it is taken away.

On a personal level, I have spent all my spare time since COD4 was released working on COD mods, and to not allow me to bring them across to MW2 for our community to play is upsetting. If you had dedicated all your spare time to creating something unique (1000s of hours) then you would be upset by their decision also.

As the developers have said, this news is great for the casual and moderate fans, but for those hardcore clans and modders that are still playing the game months down the track, it is a great let down. All we have is what they provide, so it is inevitable that it will get repetitive no matter how great it is, without new ways to experience it available to us.

This setup does benefit console gamers, but that is all. It was not needed in the PC version and should never even been considered, let alone implemented. When I say casual and moderate, it is in reference to the gameinformer article way up above ^. They say 'we want it good for casual and moderate, and the hardcore and dedicated gamers can just suck it up.'

See the problem I have with noob players (in retrospect) and console fan boys (sorry if there are some of you here) is that 9 times out of 10 they think a mod, is a hack! And you try and explain it to them and they just stare at you like a cow looks at an oncoming train. So when they see IW won't allow mods for PC they immediately think that "Ha, you PC fags can't hack anymore" and it's this generalisation that will eventually kill the Online PC Community.

The words directly from IW's mouth was that "piracy was a very small factor for removing dedicated servers" small factor, so what was the BIG one? Noob Community players who do not know wat xfire is yet or have never heard of vent, the youngins, but don't get me wrong I was one of them but it doesn't take much to find a good clan server you like, play with them heaps, they introduce you to xfire and vent and all of a sudden you see the Online PC Gaming Communities for what they really are!

Soz for rant but I'm still angry @ #MW2

I believe if they got the entire world population to sign the f---ing thing..the whores at IW would just use the petition as toilet paper, and carry on with their gay orgy.

Modern Warfare 2 to use Steamworks

Not only is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 available for pre-purchase on Steam, all copies of the PC version of the game will take full advantage of Steamworks.

A new feature of the popular games download service, Steamworks brings with it a host of features: auto-updating, anti-cheat technology, Steam Achievements, and Steam Cloud, a system whereby you can access your account from any connected computer.

Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling isn't exactly Mr. Popularity at the moment, yet he seems convinced that this suite of features will be enough to dazzle PC gamers. "Steamworks will make it possible for us to have a closer connection to our fans, and enable us to support our community much more than ever before. Steam is the hands down leader in offering a community focused experience on PC and the inclusion of Steamworks has allowed us to deliver the most feature-rich PC version to ever come from Infinity Ward, which at the end of the day will mean the most to our fans."

In other news, less than 10% of those pre-ordering the game on Amazon are getting the PC version. The boycott may be a factor...

so if you got the game would you only be able to download the patches of steam or could u dl them of other server things? cause if not it gunna chew up some bandwidth.. and i dont wanna have steam running on my cmp. another app wsting my comp space..

Amazon purges one-star reviews of Modern Warfare 2

"Some comments are more equal than others."
Amazon has become the latest battleground in the insurgency against Infinity Ward's upcoming first-person shooter. Disgruntled fans of the series, disappointed that private servers will not be supported by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, have vented their anger by writing one-star reviews of the unreleased game on Amazon.co.uk.

These reviews have been deleted.

This in turn has provoked further outrage. As one Amazon forum poster going by the name of Foamer put it: "170+ one star reviews were here this afternoon. Now, they've all been deleted, no doubt at the behest of Activision. Shame on you Amazon- you tried to pull this stunt with Spore and were forced to put them back. I suggest you do the same here before you get embroiled in the boycott."

The next thread down is named simply: 'Amazon the new Hitler????'

One-star protest reviews of unreleased products are hardly unusual on Amazon, but mass comment deletion is. The Modern Warfare 2 controversy is getting uglier by the day...

Gundam creator: video games are evil
In a recent interviewGundam franchise creator Yoshiyuki Tomino has described video games as a 'worthless' and irredeemable pastime: "Yes, they're evil. Because they just steal people's time."

While the 67-year-old writer/director believes that games themselves will never become a real art form, he does concede that the industry that supports them has super-charged the development of electronics.

"Video game hardware is endurance-tested by hundreds of thousands of people, and that helps establish computer systems that can be used in the real world. So the fact that video game hardware still exists isn't meaningless.

"I don't know much about technical things, but I think at the very least, it's thanks to computer games that we were able to develop the programs and hardware to make mobile phones as small as they are now. The fact that the game industry has taken on so many technological challenges has been a big help to the computer industry. Although the games themselves are worthless, in that sense they've been a good thing."

The Gundam series is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. This popular sci-fi franchise has spawned multitudes of plastic model kits, cartoons, and, yes, video games.

hey you deleted my post...

Activision: MW2 terror level is authentic, players can opt out

Activision has confirmed that the leaked footage from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is real, and that gamers really will have the chance to play as a terrorist, gunning down civilians in an airport.

But it's okay, because you'll have the option of skipping that bit.

“At the beginning of the game, there are two ‘checkpoints’ where the player is advised that some people may find an upcoming segment disturbing. These checkpoints can’t be disabled."

So why include the level in the first place? For cheap publicity? Gosh, no:

"The scene establishes the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the player’s mission to stop them."

I don't mind reading the posts, but it is clearly hyping the game up that the terrorist stuff is in it, most likely deliberately released for that reason. Newspaper today even had it in it.

But, please, don't post links to steam and such saying buy it here for this price, unless of course its like $10 for singleplayer version only Tongue out Cause atm I hate them for not giving a s*** about the PC communities, and that I gotta boycott it and not play the singleplayer. {#emotions_dlg.dead}

I've cancelled 2 preorders now. 1st was due to the delay of release. Than the delay was called off so I re preordered.

Than the news of no deds dropped. F that!! No custom maps, no mods, no scrims with other clans, no clans.

Yea I got 20 meg internet but I'm not waisting my bandwidth and getting the upper hand  cause I got 0 ping and everyone else had 100 200 300 what ever. Either way its a complete fist in the ass to all clans, mappers, and moders as well as your average dedicated players that love your servers and play there every day!

I've signed the waiver, I've used the sigs and even made a couple myself.

I might pirate SP version but I will never buy this game unless something major changes. I doubt it will happen.

LMFAO at the article posted above...seriously, they have completely ruined everything they had going for MW2. Limited to 9 vs 9 battles, no unique features for PC, no console...IW has gone back to the stone age.

Official IW Quote: "We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it."
Translation to gamers: "F*** you PC gamers, we know what is best for everyone, we are gods!"
Translation to modders and mappers: "We are too lazy to develope a good PC version, so we will make it a console port and completely tarnish our reputation. We don't need a PC community."

"MW3, exclusively for Commodore 64"

IW new slogan: The Way Forward, Is To Go Backwards!

Now the good news: Unreal Development Kit is free for all to use. So now we can create Epic Games...see what I did there?

Yeahh dont buy it.
i was happy with it for about 4 days
then i started gettinn a bit ticked off about multiplayer
took me 10 minutes to get into a hardcore SD  which in the end i left t because of the amount of lag.
Guns and maps are brilliant and so is singleplayer but multiplayer is just impossible to get into a good server and you have till your level 20+ to unlock hardcore servers

I bought it for singleplayer. I completed singleplayer and it was good, but was only about 4 hours long. I have not even run the multiplayer shortcut as there are too many things that I would want to change and can't therefore it will frustrate me. Also I hate matchmaking, even on my 360, and so many other different issues I have read about that TBH does not make MP appealing enough to try out.

at teh moment its only modifications using the console, so things like jumpheight, fall_damage, lazer_force, melee range, and other console changable factors.

obs requires sounds, skins, scrips ect so it wont be possible without mod tools

rememebr that MW2 has no kick button so anyone the enters a server, flies around and uses infinate ammo wont be able to be kicked

After screwing the PC community so hard, people eventually gave into the money hungry, console loving (insert word).

I read one of Cheapshot's links and noticed that MW2 had been titled the largest entertainment launch in all of recorded history.
They sold over $550 US dollars within just 5 days... they would be sitting down right at this moment laughing at PC users, while having a bath in all of their money.

No doubt about it MW2 has a great single-player campaign. But thats beside the point.
STEAM was used so that MW2 didn't have to rely on Failbuster to monitor "their servers", there are already hacks out for MW2...
Now within the first few days after release, MW2 is cracked and available to download..It supplies you with 10 cracked servers, its own server browser AND free of STEAM.

A comment i saw on a forum stated:
"Let me get this straight. Here I am "trying to be the good guy" and purchased a $60 game.....while piraters end up with a better product then the real game?"

That pretty much sums it up.

This is not to promote MW2 piracy, but simply state an obvious message that hasn't reached the people responsible for this mess.....they know who they are.

they should have taken a leaf out of Sins of a solar empire's book, which had no security on the game what so ever, didn't need a cd-key or the disc to play, only need the cd-key to make an online account, and to update the game, and it was thew best selling game of the year, and had a budget of just a few million dollars.

Spore, out somewhere around the same time, spends ridiculous amounts of money on development, and put securom (or whatever its called) on without announcement, and it became the most pirated game. ever.

Moral of the story.

Treat the players with respect, make a good game and people will WANT to buy it.

Apparently it made more money than one of the Harry Potter movies
and also more than the new batman movie

And the PC online community will probably die in the same amount of time it took them to make that money...perhaps slightly longer.

Review:

Sniper rifles now work!!!

But the hit detection is so awful that it doesn't matter...

The matchmaking system pairs up local pings!

Untill you get stuck in a matchmaking loop with people joining and getting booted and the game decides you don't get to choose a server with less than 80-90 ping.

New Perks!!!1!

Some of which are incredibly unbalanced

ZOMG So many weps!

Many of which are pretty much the same with diff skins...

HOST MIGRATION!  well.. that one isn't even good to begin with...

Again, I can not stress how bad the hit detection is.... Like, it's Halo 3 VS halo 1 hit detection. Halo 1 you could shoot a sniper through the crook of someone's neck and miss because that's how it is in the real world... Not anymore...

Attachments that you work to unlock actually make some weapons worse...

3rd person death match    IS     RE TARTED... LEAVE THE THIRD PERSON TO THE FOLKS AT  GoW!

They Kept Last stand and NoobToob in the game....  *sigh*

No console, no way of tweaking your internet settings, nothing. You get plain old XBOX360 vanilla crap controls.

****WARNING- WELL DESERVED PROFANITY BELOW******

f--- you iw.... f--- you...

Other than that, pretty fun game all around.

I was playing some spec ops other night (refuse to try MP online) and it seriously seemed like there was some sort of auto aim feature when I was sniping. Just had to point it in general direction and pull trigger and was hitting guys. No need to aim it much...was probably me just hallucinating though.

Haven't played 3rd person in MW2, but if it's anything like COD4 3rd person, then walking up stairs anim is probably super glitchy. Also, 3rd person would be way better with leaning...

How do sniper scopes works, does it switch to first person when you scope? If not it's just a super lame tacked-on mode that was available in COD4, but better in COD4 because you could tweak the range behind the character and the angle.

In other news, Bad Company 2 Beta on PS3: fun game, but difficult to play on PS3 for me. Also I keep getting pwned as everyone has cool unlocks and I'm stuck with default ones :P
But vehicles are good, and will be even better once flying vehicles are introduced. Tank + engineer healing it = unstoppable. You can use the engineer drill to drill holes through walls to make new cover and spots to shoot through. It will be good once it is released next year, at the moment its fairly stable, but a few glitchy animations here and there. I'll play some more tonight and try out the UAV if I can find it. There is also remote control recon choppers lol.

how easy is it to kill pple? like is it like cod4ish style crossed with bf2?. like is it more better feel and depth in cod4 but the more wider maps and vechiles like bf2?

For me, it is super hard lol. I was getting like 3 kills 8 deaths. Sniping was difficult due to the controls I think. Bullets are actual projectiles, so they drop over distance, and you need to lead targets. It is about the same and BF2 I guess, in regards to how quick people drop. You have to plug em a fair bit to drop them, so you could also say it's similar to softcore COD4. Headshots are an instant kill though. The battlechatter in the game is great and really adds a lot of atmosphere to the game. Guys screaming orders, calling targets, swearing, yelling, notifying snipers etc.

When sniping it takes 2 body hits to drop a guy I believe, but I like how the BF scoping works for bolt action snipers (Hold scope to watch guy, scope out to load next bullet). Deathcams/killcams don't give away too much which is good. They just show a close up of the guy that shot you to give you an idea of his class and stuff, but doesn't give away his position too much which is good.

I may be going bad because of lag though, as I am playing the NA beta currently. The PC beta should be out early December, which should be much better than the PS3 beta IMO.

Overall though, the vehicles and destruction is what makes this game stand out. It is cool to be able to shoot, drill or blowup things and make new snipe hole through walls etc. Also nice to see a building collapse when enemies are inside of it {#emotions_dlg.gunslinger} There is some slight terrain deformation too which is cool. Tanks shells and explosions cause craters. The one thing I cannot work out is prone, I'm thinking it doesnt have any prone in it, which is disappointing for snipers (hopefully I'm wrong, but I can't find a button to go prone so far and haven't seen others prone. The same goes for leaning).

Vehicles in the demo are tanks, hummers, ATV's and I believe there is a UAV that you can control from the main base that is capable of firing missiles and spotting enemies. I have also seen remote control mini recon choppers flying about.

Update: Played again and actually went well as sniper. Unlocked a couple of sniper weapons, spotted heaps of guys and sniped them too. Great fun, and will be even better once we have choppers to parachute out of.

Don't worry snake, you will. If it's just the demo then there is more to come. I played BF2 a lot and I'm sure they'll include the parachute again.

Also at the third person comment. It does suck. It's fine if you like it or enjoy it. But the game is not balanced for third person action, it's an unfair advantage for looking around corners. When you snipe it still goes to first person sniping which is unfair. And the hit detection and aiming system is unreliable. Also when aiming down the barrel, instead of shift sprinting you, it changes what side the camera is on. which is not that usefull, should be a different button so sprint still works. All in all it was a lazy attempt at the sequel. Sure single player has different story and some new perk stuff, but all the stuff we are seeing, I've seen in COD4 from the modding community. Nothing is really new, just improved a little bit. Everything in this game I've seen before. And they didn't even bother to make many new models for buildings and furnature etc... They just copy pasted a lot of it.

Still a fun game, just me griping.

Parachute is still in in the Beta. I have used it multiple times now.

In regards to my previous comment at using the UAV. The UAV is the mini helicopter and you access it via a terminal at your main base. It allows you to fly about, spot enemies and lase targets for bombardment. It takes one shot with a sniper rifle to kill the remote control chopper, and you are very vulnerable whilst controlling it from the terminal.

Still looks like leaning and prone are currently not in the game. It may be a different story for the PC Beta version though.

Should be a very enjoyable game on PC and I would currently recommend it.
