Somebody told me, that he would know, how you can see the obs better/more clearly. It should have someting to do with config, I think.

Do you guys think, that there is a way to see them better or not? I can see them but i think they are very hard to see. If there would be a possibility it would be nice if you could tell it to me. But all  in all I like this mod very mutch. It is the best I ever played.

This has been discussed a lot on the EAS website because we had an individual whos video card could not really handle the game too well. This resulted in an almost crystal clear image of the onscurities because what he saw was basically a flat white cutout where the obs should be.

Now everyone has their own little setup with either specular maps on or off, shadows, etc. Most people find that X4 anti-aliasing is better however it's harder on your system. I don't use X4 anti-aliasing much anymore because I like smoother gameplay since I know the habits of obs anyway. i don't need it as much and can still Snipe an obs across the map.

There is no real way in the settings to truly see the obs better. If anything they are minor improvements but won't save you from a veteran player. And usually the settings will cost you FPS, kind of negating the being able to see them only slightly better for lag >.<

That's my opinion anyway =P

sniping isnt too hard. take a bitta skill and lag. acog long range is fluke all the way tho. basicaaly if u see a marine goin nuts u might be able to spam him with acog, but u can see the russish blowing around sop u no he;s around somewhere. just takes patiece

cheap, thats so lies. scoping obs with an acog from a distance isnt all that hard :P
i know only a small handfull of players that can handle the acog well, others just either spam it hard, or bait marines constantly. But what really grinds my gears, is seeing masso nubs using the r700acog as a shotgun.....

Then thanks for your answers. I will practise then and try to get better, but now i know that there is a way to see them more clear.  The FPS shouldn´t be a problem, because I´m running the game at full settings (1280x1024, AA x4, all things enabled exept of two graphic cards and vertical sync., highest settings everywhere) with about 150-200 FPS.

R700 with ACOG is my favorite weapon at non-mod servers, but till now i was not able to hit an obs with this combination. I stay trying.

I hope we will see each other at playing the mod!

How do you get 150-200 Fps? Mine maxes out at 91... won't go any higher. I'm running 2x1gb 4870's in crossfire :)

I think your system can get more than 90 FPS but COD4 wont let you. Therefore you have to readjust your multiplayer-configuration (config_mp.cfg). There is a line that says seta com_maxfps "90". (Or any other value between the "). Try to set that value to 200 and you will (maybe) get more FPS.  (Dont forget to save the file after adjusting the maximal FPS.) I know you would like to set this value higher than 200 but if you set it to lets say "500" you will be kicked from nearly every server, because this is a protection. (Dont know what it brings but thats another question i dont want to ask here...)

My system is:

* 4096 MB of RAM  *nVidia GeForce GTX 275  *Q6600

I hope you will have fun with more FPS! Hope to see you at Obscurity-Servers!

haha yeah, my FPS stay at 91 also. idk much about graphics but ik i haev an ATI Readon X1600/1650 series model..supposively was really good back in the day. lol

i think i have 3069 MB of virtual memory.. its recommended in the advanced tab under System in the control panel. idk wht my max RAM is..

also i would like to point out that sometimes if you go with optimal system settings, (in my case) the obs become completely invisible. and i mean COMPLETELY. i was on obs team and stood right next to one and couldnt see him at all.

any ideas on this or information about helping me to put my settings at "optimal" and best visual performance would be nice ^^ forgive my lack of knowledge Tongue out

PS: Try to set that value to 200 and you will (maybe) get more FPS.  (Dont forget to save the file after adjusting the maximal FPS.) I know you would like to set this value higher than 200 but if you set it to lets say "500" you will be kicked from nearly every server.

i have a friend who gets between 400-500 FPS on EAS and doesnt kick him

If it isnt already enabled/set try to set seta r_distortion "0" to seta r_distortion "1". I read (here), that this will make the obs visible to you. But i also heared, that there are differences between the graphic-cards. Hope it will help you, but i can not try to find your optimal settings, because i dont have your PC and I dont know much about ATI Cards....

To your friend: That was only my experience. Maybe it isn´t that way at modded servers. Just try to set it as high as possible then. Good luck.

Disable Vsync ingame and on your graphics card control panel and change /com_maxfps (can be changed in the console) to see how high it will go on your current card.
Changing the Maxfps will have no effect if Vsync is forced on your graphics card. You need to make sure to disable Vsync both ingame and via the graphics card control panel.

I won't bother to list all the config, but if you set most things down all the way, they are easier to see.

Also needs concentration ;)

You open your graphics card control panel (usually found within the windows control panel area) and look for vsync and disable it. Then disable vsync in the graphics options of the game. The when running the game press ~ and type /com_maxfps 999 or something.

i can see them regularly, but there are occasions with graphics setting that interfer. i'd also like a good set of FPS.

snakelet what will turning it off do? make the graphics more choppy but give me more FPS?

PS: if i decide to turn it off would it be benificial to turn sync every frame "on" or no? ( no graphics card setting found within control panel..)

I think Vsync is there to lock the frames at a reasonable limit. For COD4 it is 60fps. I believe it helps stop screen tear (look it up), but it also means your FPS will not go any higher then that. Just test it out and see what happens. I get 190FPS with max settings. You will not break anything. If you don't like it, turn it back on, simple.

If you have an Nvidea or ATI graphics card, you can download the latest drivers and control panels from there websites.

V-sync caps your framerate at the refresh rate you have your monitor set to. In CoD4 there is no reason to have your framerate any higher than 100 (other than slight jumping advantage) as this is the cap of the network settings (cl_maxpackets I think) and requires you to be rendering as many frames as you desire packets to be sent, unless of course you have a refresh rate that is higher than 100 Hz which is doubtful, most LCD's have like 60 - 80 Hz.
