Hey,

I'm having some trouble with runnning a dedicated server. Te server itself seems to operate successfully, LAN clients can connect however whenever i get a Internet client their ping skyrockets to 500 minimun for a few minutes the shoots to 999.

I have never had this issue running stock CoD4 servers in the past and was just wondering if anyone had any idea as to why it happens running obscurity?

I have tried it with 295c,  296a, 296b but the issue remains the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

so, you can run all the other mods fine, without any 999 ping spikes. And Obscurity seems to be the problem?

If your running xp, say so and i MAY have a solution.

but other than that, ill leave it up to the others.

Nah i'm running Windows 7 RC at the moment with vista dual booted (both 64 bit)... I'll try running in Vista.

And yes everymod that i have run so far (gungame, modwarfare) including stock CoD4 run fine, so it appears to be something with the obscurity mod.

What is your XP solution? who knows maybe something similar might help in 7/vista.

Well, when i set up my dedicated server a while back to play with friends from school, i noticed also that whenever i used the obscurity mod it would be laggy as. But i spent a few days lookin up solutions on lag spikes and that, and found that if you use windows xp zero configuration utility it lag spikes every minute or so.

1. Start, Run...cmd

2. ping (any ip address) -t

3. leave it running for a few minutes

4. look through the data u recieved and ull notice a huge lag spike every few minutes.

What i did to stop this was i disabled windows xp zero config utility in

Start/Run/services.msc

scroll to the bottom of the list where ull find windows xp zero config, right click/properties/disable/ok

Note: You will need another program to handle your internet, many online

This helped me alot..no more huge lag spikes.

Not sure if this will help, have no idea if it actually is the mod..but i did this and it worked like a charm.
