Hey, a friend and I just started up a new clan a couple months ago. We are mostly focused on CoD4 and are looking into different realism mods. I tried obscurity and fell in love with it, however I thought this mod ( HitLoc ) would server our purposes later. So I have decided to buy a server from http://pingpulse.net/. I am almost entirely convinced that this would be a great mod for our clan's SnD purposes. However, before buying the server I wisely tested the mod on a home server and noticed a few peculiar things that I have questions about.

1.) Create-a-Class??? Can't Seem To Find It! And if not, anyway to enable this feature, or edit the preset classes?
2.) There is no help section, so how will newcomers know that to retrieve a claymore/ c4 / throwing knife that you need to press the Use Key. Or that to turn off lasers on a claymore you have to press and hold the Defuse Key.
3.) When switching between attachments via the ingame key, the attachments only cycle through Red Dot and Acog. This irks me becuase what about the need for a silencer! This feature was included for pistols, but not primaries?(understandable for snipers) 

Those are the main topics, but there are some other minute details I won't mention (like disapearing throwing knives). Well I would appreciate it very much if either Falcar or Snakelet got back to me on this topic as I know they are the one's who manage this project. I would like to see the finished version of this mod, and might be willing to donate. Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

HitLoc is great mod, but extemely difficult for many newcomers which puts them off. It is also not 100% complete, similar to Obscurity, but it is 100% playable.

1.As per vanilla COD4, you will need to rank up and complete challenges to unlock weapons and create a class etc. All class creation needs to be done outside of the mod. It is done this way so that people who enjoy ranking up can, as this was a major complaint during Obscurity beginnings. However this cannot be changed. If you want guns you need to play. On a plus note, by default the scoring should be 5 times quicker I believe.

2.Correct, we wanted to do the help last so that we didnt have to continuously update it. As the mod is not complete yet, a help section is also not done. There are some game guides on the website here though if you need some assistance understanding the mod's workings.Currently, you will need to help people out by word of mouth.

3. If you do not take an ACOG or RDS the gun will toggle between silencer/non-silencer if possible for that weapon. Sniper zoom will most likely be removed as we are not happy with the responsiveness of it. Sniper zoom will change between a toggle ACOG/Scope option. The reason why you cannot toggle to silencer when you have ACOG/RDS is because you cannot have 2 perks on the one weapon based on how the models are done. We found the way we did it to be the best option, and is why if you want to be silent, you use your silenced pistol. This was the most balanced option.

Throwing knives are only retrievable if they stab in the surface at the correct angle. This is an engine limitation. We had to do a lot of magic to get those in as good as they currently are. We also did not want them to always stick into the surface as sometimes it would just look strange if coming from wierd angles and IRL it would not penetrate the surface.

It's good to know that you like it, and it is very playable how it is. It is not 100% done and we are not sure when it will be. We go in cycles and Obscurity is currently the mod we work on the most.

Ok,

Create-a-class isn't included because we wanted to have persistent classes- that is, they're remembered between servers and map changes like normal cod4. To compensate we made the ranking system much faster, you should by default rank up 5x faster than usual (adjustible up to 100x by changing dvar: hitloc_xpscale. However we literally just added a multiplier to the rank code... it doesn't seem to always work linearly)

 The help section isn't there because it's an unfinished mod, there is still much more content we had planned on adding and we were more keen on focusing on features rather than documentation. Given it isn't as popular as our other mods (not sure why, we love it, it's just not the same pace as usual cod) working on it has had low priority and we've been busy.

The attachments cycling does allow for silencer on/off of primaries (as far as I remember), but only if you took the silencer to begin with or had no attachment. There is no silencer option for scoped primary weapons because the way they made the gun models (silenced is one model, unsilenced is another) doesn't allow for a scope in tandem with a silencer (except for one or two exceptions from single player, which we don't intend on supporting due to the xmodel limit)

And as far as throwing knives are concerned, their chance of sticking to a wall depends on the angle it's thrown at it. The more front-on, the higher the chance of sticking. When knives don't stick, they use an effect to appear to bounce off. Unfortunately, we can't make it so bounced knives are able to be picked up. So rather than making all knives stick (which would lead to strange knive-placement on extreme angles) we made it so knives that bounce are "broken" and can't be picked up.

Thanks for the quick response. I will post here again when the server is up. I really appreciate all the mods both of you ( Falcar and Snakelet ) have created. I am looking forward to the finishing, or at least some progressive actions taken to advance the HitLoc mod. Thanks again :D

I will probably have contiouns questions about the HitLoc mod and will also suggest improvements and inform both of you ( Falcar and Snakelet ) about any bugs or glitches I find.

1.) The sniper variable zoom works correctly, but when you zoom out a weird animation occurs. I am sure both of you know about the glitch, but is there anyway to fix it as of now?

2.) Does this mod work on all stock maps ( Chinatown, Crash, Crossfire, etc. ) and also will this mod work for custom maps?

No worries.

1. We plan to change the sniper to a toggle ACOG/Scope option. The zooming stuffs up based on player lag, meaning there are epic delays on the scope zoom sometimes. This isn't good enough for us, which is why we will eventually be changing this. Test it offline and you will notice that the zoom lag is very minimal.

2. The mod 'should' work with all vanilla gametypes and maps. Custom maps will not support day/night and weather cycles. HQ/KOTH gametype does not currently have the helicopter scripted for every level. Levels that don't currently have the helicopter HQ spotter still work though. Party Mode is also not implemented for every level. Crossfire, Crash, Shipment, Broadcast, Creek etc should be ok.

-And should I use this command ""set scr_hardcore "1" "" , to enable hardcore in the server? Or should I use some other command. I ask this because when I started my test server, the HUD was enabled but all of the HitLoc options worked. So I would like to find out how to disable the HUD, without ruining the gameplay. 

-This server will have a serious undertone, so I was also wondering how to configure PB to have very strict settings. For example,

( PunkBuseter might kick a player for having missing iw_00.iwd through iw_06 files. )

-Furthermore, lol, ummmm.... oh yeah, in obscurity, the midnight setting is literally pitch black, but in HitLoc it is not :(
Are both of you ( Falcar and Snakelet ) thinking of changing this? Well I would enjoy the change for the next update :] 

-Plus would you have any tips, suggestions, etc. for a Search and Destroy server using your HitLoc mod?

-There shouldn't be any HUD so I would suggest making sure you are executing the config correctly in your server start shortcut.

-You will need to experiment with PB restrictions yourself, for your server.

-Weather and day/night would match up, if not already. Try hitloc_dnoverride 0 in the console, that should be midnight I think. Make sure you are comparing the same maps as each map is different. It is likely we have not updated HitLoc to newer lighting settings though.

No real tips, but we do have plans to edit Search and Destroy if we continue modding it, to remove all HUD elements (bomb icon). This would make it much more search and destroy like as you would need to really protect bombsites and hunt for dropped bombs etc. There would ideally still be ways to locate them, but not via icons that you can see from anywhere on the map.

- Does anyone know the command for downloading a punkbuster config file of a specific server. For example, there is a punkbuster config file that a certain server has that I would like to download, edit, and immplement into my own server; however, I don't know the command to download this file. Also, if not, how do you create your own punkbuster config file. I am familiar with all types of config files, except for punkbuster.

It is not possible to do it on regular ways. To speak about the inregular way I'm not allowed to speak here. What a special PunkBuster-config you want btw. ?

If PunkBuster on our servers is configured like you want ask me on Xfire for sharing.

well I would like a pb config file that basically eliminates all possible advantages that a player might achieve through either console or iwd/iwi file changing- so this pb cfg file would basically be really strict

Nah I have impure client kick by md5 tool .iwd file verification

When you download the promod you get the md5-tool checks in a file.

But this scans do also only scan the very beginning of that file. I think you have to scan also short under the end of file.

I did it for some time before so but there was also many kicks for invalid .iwd-files. Someone told me he use original files from the game-cd and gets kicked. So maybe there exist more than one version of the same files ?! So I no longer check for whole file. Only the beginning like in the promod config. Don't try to check for iw3mp.exe and such stuff. Some crazy admins do this althought it is so very useless.

If you use Windows you can have trouble viewing the files as Windows require 2 control characters to indentify a linebreak where Linux require only one of them.

Ask me when you want to know something about PunkBuster settings. I think I know almost all settings. But about cvar-checks I'm more a noob. Because I don't know all the CoD4 specific exploits related on cvars.
